    "That happens all the time at Goldcar, when you refuse to take an insurance: they somehow block your credit card", the lady of my bank told me when I called to find out why I couldn't pay for the car. Beware! This is a spooky company!

    Based offsite at the airport but not a problem as picked up in the airport ad soon as we rang + brought to base. Car ready, efficient staff. Full to full petrol which I prefer. Usual paperwork then off. Left car back on way home, lovely girl brought us to the airport. Excellent service, couldn't fault it.

    Good prices but avoid if possible. They make up their profit by charging for scratches that were already there or can barely be seen. Twice I picked up the car at midnight, once in torrential rain. There is no lighting, so you can't see what condition the car is in. Perfect for them, not for you. Once they charged me for a chip on the windscreen. I would have known if a stone had hit the windscreen. The other time, when picking up the car, I did spot a scratch which was not marked. On return, another person wanted to charge for it. They had not marked on the contract the scratch that I had seen, but I asked for the other person and she was there, and she did recognize that I had pointed it out. I had barely used the car but he was determined to find something. They charged for a tiny barely visible scratch, that I would not have seen in the dark. If you don't find anything else cheaper, be very careful when picking up the car. Take photos and check the contract. Avoid Avoid.

    After the farcical phone call I sent an email explaining what had happened and asked them for a full refund and at the very least to know what allegedly they had charged me for. This is now over a month ago and not only they never replied back but they never even acknowledged my email as you would expect a professional company to do.

    My girlfriend who is Spanish called the number on their website and the person she spoke to said she couldn't put us in touch with the Santiago office as the central office doesn't have the extension numbers of the local offices (?!?!?!) and that Goldcar didn't have my email address (?!?!?!?!) and that this was the reason they didn't let me know about this charge. Of course this is a blatant lie as Goldcar (like in any internet transaction) had my email address from the start since I received an email confirmation as soon as I booked the car online. Truly unbelievable.

    I was shocked as the car was in perfect condition and never at any point did the girl say otherwise. And never did I sign anything upon returning the car. And never did I authorise any money to be paid out.

    In all the years I have hired cars I have never had any problem. Never I would have thought that a company could be so dishonest and act in this way preying on people they think will not bother to try and get their money back just because it's hassle once the holiday is over and you get back home and because you don't speak the language.

    When picking up the car we waited for more than an hour to be picked up in the airport. The nummer for the local office is not showed any where, and the main office couldn't reach them either, so we had no idea whether they where actually open. When we finally got picked up we had to pay an extra fee for the car. When returning the car there was nobody at the office even though we returned the car within the opening hours. Honestly the worst service I have ever experienced!

    The girl on duty that morning inspected the car and said everything was fine, handed me the papers back and then invited us to get into the van so she could drop us off at the airport.

    These people helped themselves to €400 plus £10.79 for non-sterling transaction from my account without even letting me know!
